Engineering students may have to shell out more for studies in Karnataka

Karnataka Higher Education Minister CNΒ AshwathnarayanΒ said the state government would conduct a meeting in the second week of September to discuss the demand of private engineering college managements to increase fees.Β

Engineering students studying in Karnataka may have to shell out more for studies as theΒ government is planning to increase fees from this academic session.Β Karnataka Higher Education Minister CNΒ AshwathnarayanΒ said the state government would conduct a meeting in the second week of September to discuss the demand of private engineering college managements to increase fees.Β Β 

He said,Β β€œWhile fee revision takes place every year for medical and dental courses, there has been no revision of fees for engineering courses in the past three years.” The Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association has asked for fees to be increased by around 30 per cent, Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges Association secretary Shafi Ahmed said colleges under their umbrella had demanded a 25 per cent increase in fee.Β Β 

A government official said a decision in this regard would be taken keeping in mind the COVID-19 crisis. A steep increase in the fee structure as demanded by various colleges would not be possible, especially during the pandemic. However, a rough hike of 10 per cent was expected.Β 

Karnataka Common Entrance TestΒ (KCET) 2021 was conducted on August 28 and 29 and Kannada language test forΒ HoranaduΒ andΒ GadinaduΒ Kannadiga candidates was conducted on August 30, 2021. It is a pen and paper test and candidates who qualify the entrance examination are able to secure admissions into the participating institutes. A total of 2,01,816 candidates had appeared in the exam.Β KCET 2021 resultΒ is expected to be released on September 20. After that, successful candidates will be called for appearing in theΒ KCET 2021 counselling, which is expected to be heldΒ in the first week of October 2021. KCET is conducted for admission to professional courses such as engineering technology, bachelor of pharmacy (BPharma), diploma in pharmacy (DPharma), agriculture courses (farm science) and veterinary courses. Candidates who desire to take admission to medical or dental orΒ ayurvedaΒ orΒ unaniΒ or homoeopathy courses must qualify National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)Β exam, whereas candidates seeking admission to architecture course throughΒ KCET 2021Β must have qualifiedΒ JEE Main Paper-2Β orΒ NATAΒ to participate inΒ KCET counselling.Β
