IIT Kanpur has come forward to help small and medium businesses amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

With the outbreak of coronavirus in the country, the commercial and industrial sector has faced severe downfall. In order to help the small and medium businesses facing the unfolding challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has decided to support them. The IIT Kanpur has created a business resource platform titled, Technopark@iitk, to allow the beleaguered MSMEs to leverage the Institute’s research & development (R&D) strengths.

Under the Technopark@iitk, the Institute has designed an ‘Affiliate Membership Model’ to provide a gateway to the MSMEs to access its deep-seated R&D infrastructure. The primary goal of the model is to handhold the MSMEs for improving their product quality, and to assist them in skill and technology up-gradation.

“The research park plans to increase its reach in the coming months. It is already in active interactions with the TiE-UP and Indian Industries Association (IIA), and would like to reach out to various government ministries and departments including the MSME ministry to push this model for wider adoption,” Technopark@iitk COO Reema Mittal informed.

Technopark@iitk is keen to scale up the model to reach out to more MSMEs and start-ups.

Earlier, this month the institute has also signed a MoU with Ministry of Defence and Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India. The MoU was signed in the presence of Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Personnel Dr Jitendra Singh and Deputy Director, IIT Kanpur Professor S Ganesh. The agreement has been signed to conduct and develop the exploratory and predictive analysis of Public Grievances received in the portal of Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) using the tools of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and statistics.
