JEE Advanced has been postponed once again as the JEE Main 2020 April exam is also postponed. JEE Main 2020 was earlier scheduled to be conducted from July 18-23 but it has been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Yesterday, the HRD Minister also announced that a committee was constituted to review the situation for conducting the exam. The committee recommended postponing both the engineering entrance exams.

JEE Advanced is conducted every year for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). In a decision by the Joint Admission Board last year, the top 2.5 lakh AIR candidates of JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2020.

Another key decision is to hold the JEE Advanced exam in the United States for the first time. A JEE Advanced examination centre will be set up in the San Francisco area to serve this purpose.

The announcement of dates is a relief for the students as they were in the doldrums as to whether any of the exams will be conducted or any one among the two exams will be conducted, what will be the basis for admission to IITs, NITs and IIITs and similar speculations.

During the lockdown, HRD Minister interacted with students across the country in a webinar to resolve their confusion regarding the exams. During the webinar, he also said that the coaching centres are closed as they can cause problems to ensure social distancing and increase the threat of Coronavirus transmission among students. Candidates are suggested to prepare by means of self-study for avoiding loss of studies due to this.
