JEE Main 2020 Exam to be conducted as per the schedule: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has rejected a plea for postponing the JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) on account of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Due to ongoing coronavirus cirisis and the number of cases growing, six opposition-ruled states i.e. West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Maharashtra filed a review petition challenging its August 17, order demanding postponement of the JEE Main 2020 April/September examination.

The plea was filed by West Bengal minister Moloy Ghatak, Rajasthan minister Raghu Sharma, Jharkhand minister Rameshwar Oraon, Punjab minister BS Sidhu, Chhattisgarh minister Amarjeet Bhagat, and Maharashtra minister Uday Ravindra Sawant on August 28. Earlier, the SC has rejected a similar request for exam postponement by 11 students from 11 states on August 17.
NTA is conducting the entrance exam smoothly with proper safety arrangements and extra precautionary protocols across all the JEE Main 2020 examination centres due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The exam conducting authority has made an arrangement of 10 lakh masks/pairs of gloves for students/staff, 1,300 infrared thermometer guns to examine body temperature of candidates/staff at the examination centre, etc.
Meanwhile, JEE Main 2020 April/September entrance examination is being conducted from September 1-6 in online mode across a total of 660 centres in India and abroad. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is a national-level entrance exam conducted every year in two sessions, first in January and second in April. This year, April session examination was postponed twice due to COVID-19 outbreak.
The JEE Main exam is a gateway for the admission to BE/BTech, BPlan and BArch courses at the IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology), NITs (National Institute of Technology) and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) across the country.
