Competition Remains High Despite More Engineering Seats

This year, Maharashtra is offering admission to 1,92,180 engineering seats across 380 institutes, compared to 1,77,985 seats in 372 institutes last year. While the state has added more than 14,000 engineering seats, the round 1 cutoff shows that demand for the most sought-after colleges and branches has remained strong.

Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Electronics & Telecommunication have the highest closing ranks at top government and autonomous engineering colleges. On the other hand, Mechanical, Civil and Production Engineering remained comparatively more accessible across several institutes.

How is MHT CET Cutoff Prepared?

The CAP round 1 cutoff is the closing ranks at which admission was offered in a particular college and branch. It is prepared after considering factors such as:

  • Candidate's MHT CET merit rank
  • Preferences filled during option entry
  • Seat availability
  • Reservation policy
  • Number of applicants for a particular college and branch

Students should note that the round 1 cutoff is not the final cutoff for the admission process. Closing percentiles may change in the upcoming CAP rounds as candidates accept, freeze, float or surrender their allotted seats.

How to Use MHT CET 2026 CAP Round 1 Cutoff?

Candidates who have not secured admission to their preferred institute should carefully analyse the round 1 cutoff before the next counselling round. Comparing the closing ranks across colleges can help students make smarter option entries and improve their chances of securing a better seat in CAP round 2. Candidates allotted a seat in round 1 must complete the seat acceptance and institute reporting process within the prescribed schedule to remain eligible for further counselling.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   Which college will I get with 97.5 percentile in MH CET?
A:

With 97.5 percentile in MHT-CET, you have a strong chance to get admission in reputed colleges like PICT Pune, VIT Pune, SPIT Mumbai, or Thakur College of Engineering for branches such as IT, ECE, or Electrical. COEP and VJTI may be difficult for CSE. Government colleges like WCE Sangli, SGGS Nanded, and GCOE Amravati are also good options. You can get preferred branches in private colleges and core branches in government ones. Your chances further improve if you belong to a reserved category or have home university advantage within Maharashtra.

Q:   What is the minimum cutoff required for admission to M.Tech at COEP?
A:

For the General HS category, the cutoff ranged from 4.33 to 20.54 percentile for M.Tech course specialisations. Therefore, students need to attain at least 4.33 percentile for admissions at COEP Pune. MHT CET M.Tech percentiles are required for admission to M.Tech courses at COEP, Pune.

Students should note that the above mentioned percentile is only valid for the General HS category in the last round. Other rounds and categories will have different minimum qualifying percentiles. To know more, students can click here

Q:   I scored 120 in MHT CET. Which college will I get? I belong to the general category.
A:

With 120 marks in MHT-CET (General category), you are unlikely to get top colleges/branches (like CSE/IT in COEP, VJTI) but can aim for mid-tier private/university-affiliated colleges in less competitive branches.
