Record Breaking Turnout in JEE Main 2026; Over 13 Lakh Appear for BE/BTech in Session 1

NTA has conducted the JEE Main 2026 January session exam for BE/BTech candidates successfully across multiple cities in India and abroad. The exam was held on January 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 and on each day, there were 2 shifts. A total of 10 shifts were held for Paper 1.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released data for the number of candidates registered and appeared for the JEE Main 2026 session 1 exams till January 28. As per the data shared by NTA, this is the highest number of candidates appearing for the JEE Main exam in history.

NTA has conducted the JEE Main 2026 January session exam for BE/BTech candidates successfully across multiple cities in India and abroad. The exam was held on January 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 and on each day, there were 2 shifts. A total of 10 shifts were held for Paper 1. As per the official NTA data, across the 10 shifts, 13,00,368 candidates have appeared out of the 13,50,969 candidates scheduled to appear. The total number of candidates will increase further as number of candidates appearing for the paper 2 exam today, January 29, is yet to be released.

JEE Main 2026 Total Number Of Candidates in Session 1

The JEE Main 2026 paper 1 exam is over. This year 13,00,368 candidates have appeared in paper 1. Last year, the total number of candidates who appeared in the January session in paper 1 and paper 2 was 12,58,136, and in 2024 it was 11,70,036.

NTA has released the cumulative data for each day of the JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam. Check below:

  • On January 21 total number of candidates who appeared was 2,56,500
  • By January 23, the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam was 7,70,441 
  • By January 24, the cumulative number of candidates who appeared for the exam was 10,36,211
  • And as of January 28, the total number of candidates who appeared is 13,00,368.
