What is a Safe Score in JEE Main 2026 for NIT Admission?
Admission to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) is based on the JEE Mains scores. Check below to understand the JEE Main 2026 safe score for NITs.
NTA will conduct the JEE Main 2026 exam for session 1 from January 21 to 30, while the session 2 exam date is April 2 to 9, 2026. Candidates must note that admission to 32 NITs is based on JEE Main 2026 exam scores. For admission to NITs, qualified students will have to participate in the JoSAA counselling. The minimum rank/scores differ for each college and branch.
NIT Seat Matrix Overview
All the NITs combined have a total of 24525 seats. Of these, only 9389 seats are available for the open category or the general neutral category. For the CSE branch, there are 3694 seats at all the NITs combined. Now, students must note that 50% of the seats are reserved for the home-state candidates.

NIT Safe Score 2026
The following table is based on the JoSAA counselling for the last round. Candidates can find the JEE Main 2025 cutoff scores for outside state candidates and the expected scores for 2026 alongside. It is important to note that the JEE Main cutoff marks given here are for admission to the institute; candidates will require more marks for competitive branches such as CSE.
