Banaras Hindu University has launched student counselling in order to assist students and their diverse needs. The initiative aims to overcome challenges and to provide holistic development for students. The programme includes 15 counsellors across various faculties to conduct student well-being initiatives in order to identify their strengths, overcome obstacles, and set themselves on a path to success.
The university has appointed and trained 15 Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Fellows with backgrounds in psychology as counsellors. For the 2024-25 academic session, These people have all finished their formal schooling in psychology at Banaras Hindu University. Their preliminary role will be to function as change mechanisms, encouraging positivity and engagement among learners through innovative counselling techniques and creative processes.
Initially projected as a pilot program at Mahila Mahavidyalaya, the university's women's college, this initiative has indicated its effectiveness in obliging students to overcome life challenges and achieve success in both their educational and personal endeavours. Due to its triumph, the program has now been enlarged to encompass the entire university, providing support to students across all capabilities. The new establishment, named ‘Pahal,’ will provide learners with a secure area to seek suggestions, address problems, and obtain professional counselling support.
This initiative by BHU is launched together with the National Education Policy 2020, which prioritizes the enhancement of students' physical, psychological, and emotional health.
