Q. What students can expect in terms of cut-off marks this year?
A. The DU cut-off 2021 is expected to go much higher than what it was last year.
Q. DU is planning to reopen the campus from September 15 in a phased manner. What changes students can expect in the University due to the pandemic?
A. We are closely watching the situation. If the situation deteriorates will continue the online class, if it improves then we will open campus for offline classes or the blended mode, it is very difficult to decide it right now. Unlike earlier, now students will have to follow certain protocols to come to campus. It will be mandatory for them, lectures and other staff members to wear masks all the time and to maintain social distance.
Q. How the new change in teaching-learning was? How did college adapt to the online classes?
A. Initially, when the pandemic began and the campus was shut down, it was difficult. But eventually, people started adapting to the new norm; i.e. online classes. We also conducted workshops for teachers in the college to train them to take classes online. In January, when the teachers were allowed to come back to college, we improved the Wi-Fi, to help them teach from the campus itself without any trouble. Additional routers, internet connections were added on the campus to help teachers and students to take online classes and practicals. As far as theory was concerned there was no problem. However, for practicals, it was a challenge. But then certain software was discovered where the teachers could teach practicals also online. Teachers also came up with some innovative methods to teach practicals online.
Now, as compared to last year, we are doing fairly well. Our main aim was that no student should face any academic loss and we are happy to achieve it.
Q. Has college provided any digital devices to students?
A. In some departments, we have provided few students who were in real need and this year, too we are planning to provide digital devices to more students. We are also drafting out policies on how to distribute these digital devices.
Q. Is college planning to provide any scholarship or fee exemption to students who have lost one or both parents to COVID-19?
A. Yes, we will be providing a full fee waiver to those who lost there to COVID-19.
Q. Will, there be any fee hike this year for any course/ subject?
A. No, there will be no fee hike this academic year considering the COVID-19 situation in the country.
Q. Any message for students looking forward to joining college this year?
A. Be positive, you will get into one or the other college. You should decide the course don’t run behind the colleges. Don’t get panic, when you see Delhi University's first cut-off list. Because it's going to be very high, it's not going to be a real thing. The realistic cut-off list you will be able to see after the third list only.
If you are getting your choice of course in any college in the first list please fix your seat. And in the second or subsequent list, you see your cut-off falls in a certain college that you want to go to, make sure that you fulfill all the criteria before cancelling the admission. Because if you cancel the admission and then you discover that you are not eligible in another college, that is a very sorry state. Students should not cancel their admission unless they are 100 per cent sure that they will get admission to another college.
