Sudhir K. Jain has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University.

Prof Sudhir K. Jain upon his appointment as the new Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has said that he is looking forward to contributing to the continued development of this historical institution.

Jain who is serving his third term as the Director of Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT GN) will hold the office of BHU VC for a period of three years.

In a facebook post, Jain wrote: “I am deeply honored and humbled to be appointed as the next Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University and I look forward to contributing to the continued development of this historical institution.”

He added that BHU is inheritor of a rich and glorious past going back more than 100 years. Jain writes: “Its alumni have distinguished themselves in such diverse fields as the arts, literature, government, policy, academics, law, engineering and medicine. It is one of India’s largest residential public universities and perhaps the most diversified academically. It ranked 3rd in the NIRF 2021 University rankings and is one of only 12 institutes recognised as an “Institute of Eminence” in the country. I am exceedingly proud to be associated with an Institution of such remarkable legacy, reputation and scale.”

“In the weeks and months to come, I hope to learn more about the Institute, programs, people, opportunities and challenges so that we can collectively endeavour to scale ever greater heights and propel BHU into the leagues of the world’s most prestigious universities,” says Jain in his post.

He further added: “Inspired by Mahamana’s example, who brought this remarkable University to life more than a century ago on the strength of philanthropic support, I am looking forward also to engaging and partnering with its large network of illustrative alumni and well-wishers in BHU’s advancement and rejuvenation.”
