Jamia Millia Islamia to be considered as skill development hub
The Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Ministry is considering Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) among the list of higher education institutions to be developed as a hub for skill development.
Jamia Vice-Chancellor, Prof Najma Akhtar recently called on the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan who is also heading the Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Ministry and the VC informed that he has agreed to consider JMI as a βhubβ for skill development and entrepreneurship training programmes.
These skill development programmes will be designed in consultation with the prospective employers and according to the needs of the market. Learning of foreign language would also be part of the curriculum to improve the employability prospects of the students in India and abroad.
As per a release issued by the university, the education minister praised that a JMI faculty has been selected for Visitorβs Award for Research and seven out of eight Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) awardees from the university are girls, βwhich speaks of the significant role the university is playing in empowering girl students.β
JMI is one of the three central universties in the National Capital, other two being Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University. Jamia was ranked among the top 10 universities in the country in the National Institutional Ranking Framework(NIRF) 2020 released by education ministry.
