National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is designed to harness the full potential of our human capital. “It will transform our young into global citizens who will be committed to humanity’s welfare. NEP 2020 will bring a new era of socio-economic transformation for India as well as other emerging economies,” said Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held discussions with educationists, intellectuals and industry leaders at a Round Table on ‘Future of Education 5.0’ in Kolkata.

Pradhan spoke about the immense scope of NEP 2020, making skilling more aspirational, CUET, building India as a knowledge economy et al. He said: “Education and skilling has to be more outcome-based. It should minimise the gap between academia and industry and provide realistic solutions to pressing challenges of society, industry, country and humanity.”

The minister said that learning in Indian languages develops critical thinking. He said: “NEP 2020 emphasises on learning in all Indian languages. Removing language barriers in learning & skilling will improve learning outcomes, increase penetration of education and skilling and also boost employability.”

Pradhan added that NEP 2020 puts emphasis on creating a culture of innovation, research and creativity. He said that in the next two decades India will be a global hub of critical and modern technologies.

“Kolkata as a city of learning, ideas, knowledge and education also has its responsibilities towards the society. To establish India as a knowledge-superpower, West Bengal has to assume a lead role and come up with new ideas & models to capitalise the opportunities of IR 4.0,” he said.

Education Minister said: “I am sure the enterprise, academic & intellectual community will fulfil their responsibilities for establishing India as a global hub for skilled manpower.
