Students preparing for class 10th Science board examinations must go through the ICSE preparation tips for better preparation of the exam. These preparation tips on ICSE 10th Science will help them score well and perform better. The Science stream includes various subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, English, etc. The article below will brief students about the exam pattern, syllabus and guide them on acing the Science exams by sharing the valuable ICSE Science preparation tips 2020.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) will conduct the ICSE 10th exams from February 27 till March 30, 2020. Students can click on ICSE 10th Exams 2020 to find the detailed syllabus and know more about the board exams.

Top 10 Preparation tips for ICSE Science Exam 2020:

  1. Know the syllabus: It is important that students know the chapters and topics to be covered while preparing for the exams. This will save time and effort that goes into studying the topics and ensures that preparation is headed in the right direction. Students can click on the link provided above to know the detailed ICSE 10th syllabus 2020.
  2. Formulae and derivations: Science papers, especially physics, will have a lot of formulae and derivations to understand and recall. Write this down separately, read through it twice each day. Make a habit of writing all the formulae and derivations once every day. This makes it easier to understand and remember them correctly.
  3. Letters and their Bonds: Chemistry paper will require you to know the periodic table and also certain chemical equations. Write this down in order, separately. Go through this list every day, so as to not forget or get confused. Draw the chemical structures to remember them easily.
  4. Bring out the Artist: Biology papers, no doubt has questions that require one to “draw a neatly-labeled diagram”. It is nearly not enough to just look at the diagram and try to remember the labels. Instead, every weekend, draw all the diagrams that are there in the syllabus and practice labelling them correctly. This will also enable to explain the diagram if required.
  5. Adhere to the stipulated time: It is easy to get carried away during writing the science paper. Solve previous years’ question papers and time them to know exactly how well students can manage the time that they have. Do not waste time unnecessarily by writing lengthy answers devoid of relevance to the question.
  6. Organise your answers: Especially for the lengthy answers, write a short and concise introduction to the concept. Begin the answer with points to justify the answer. Highlight the keywords by underlining them. While practicing writing answers this way, students will be able to follow this in the main exam too.
  7. Powers: Chemistry paper has numerical problems that involve powers, for example, the Avogadro number. When solving the problem, if one writes the exponential powers incorrect, though you get the right numerical value, the exponent makes it incorrect. Practice writing the values of the constants to not get confused with the various exponential values of each.
  8. Make a schedule and stick to it: This may seem difficult at the beginning, but once students get used to the schedule, it becomes easy to concentrate for long hours. This continuity helps revise concepts and follow mind maps without gaps. Take small breaks to keep the mind fresh.
  9. Write and Practice: It might seem easy to mug up the text, but mugging does not help score well where the question demands understanding of concepts. To retain the concepts, one has studied for the exam, understand the concept, explain it in own words, revise and recall. Once students can internalise the concepts, writing the answers is easier.
  10. Don’t give in to stress or peer pressure: Each student has their speed and method of learning. Practice at a pace that is both comfortable and effective. Finish the tougher portions first and keep the easier ones for the last.
  11. Previous Years Question Papers: One of the most effective ways to assess performance is to solve the previous years’ question papers. The question paper pattern will help one get acclimated to the degree of ease or toughness of the paper, duration of the exam and other exam patterns. It is a good way to get through with the vast syllabus.

Exam Preparation Tips - Class X

ICSE 10th Science preparation is no doubt stressful and hectic, but these preparation tips are going to help students plan better, prepare better and perform better.

Organise tasks: Every day, early in the morning, write down the tasks for the day. This list should include the subject, the chapter that one intends to study, time for revision, breaks, etc. Do not begin with lengthy units or chapters since it is a demotivating factor. Start off with short and easy tasks so that students are motivated to take on the more difficult ones. Try not to break the flow. This does not mean one cannot take breaks, but be sure not to get into an activity that distracts one from studies for a longer time than planned for. Take short breaks to stay fresh.

Health: One of the most neglected factors during exams is health. Some contributors to this problem are lack of sleep, tension, and stress, lack of appetite, etc. Here are simple solutions that one can follow: Eat well and eat right. Try to avoid an overdose of sweets as they tend to make one drowsy. Eat spinach and fibre to keep the digestive system in the best of health. Stay hydrated to avoid straining your eyes and headache. Stretch legs, walk a bit during breaks. Cramps are common during long hours of study.

Avoid all kinds of distractions: Stay away from long hours of binge-watching TV programmes and shows. Avoid using social media as they are a major source of personal stress. All these cause unnecessary distractions and do not aid in preparation.

Give equal importance to all the subjects: The cumulative results of all the subjects help determine the final marking. Do not make the mistake of avoiding subjects like languages. Every subject is equally important and one needs to put in an equal amount of hard work. Try not to skip chapters and concepts because every mark makes a lot of difference in the final ranking. Never cheat during the exam.

There is plenty of time for preparation and revision for the upcoming exams. Study well, write well and most importantly, stay calm.
