The ISC exam pattern 2020 for Science makes students familiar with the marking scheme, total marks, duration of the exam, different types of questions asked and much more. Read the complete exam pattern of ISC 12th for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology below.

The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has released the ISC exam pattern 2020 on the official website. Students preparing to appear for the ISC 12th exam next year must check the ISC exam pattern for different subjects. It makes one familiar with the marking scheme, types of questions asked duration of the exam and much more. This article will elaborate students about the ISC exam pattern for Science subjects. After going through the exam pattern if ISC board science subject, students must solve and practice the ISC 12th question paper of the previous years’ for better preparation of the exam. The time allotted to solve the question paper is 3 hours. Students will get 15 minutes extra to read the question paper. The maximum score a student can fetch in each- Physics, Chemistry, and Biology - is 70 marks.

The CISCE is a national level board of school education in India that conducts the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination for class 12th students annually. This exam is popular for its extensive and voluminous syllabus with equal importance being given to practical oriented concepts as well as research. The subjects and syllabus require the student to develop a deep-rooted understanding of the concept rather than just the textual theory. Though equal importance is given to all subjects including languages, science paper is extensive. It has three separate papers for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, making it vast, expansive and influential regarding the final result. Here is everything that you need to know about the Class 12 Science Exam Pattern 2020.

ISC 12th 2020 Science Exam Pattern and Grading:

5 Important Resources and Books:

When it comes to books and resources for preparing for the exam, one can categorise them into two for ease. One kind is a deep textual matter that explains in detail, all the concepts that one needs to know about the subject and syllabus. This will include explanations and examples to help understand better. These resources are to be used only during preparation.

The other kind of resource list should include guides that only highlight the important questions and concepts, without any extensive explanations. These will help during the last-minute revisions.

The best resource for the exam preparation is the list of prescribed textbooks by the council, as they cover the syllabus accurately.

Some of the most common resources that are widely used by students are:

  1. Arihant Publications
  2. Oswaal Question banks
  3. Solved Question Papers from previous years

ISC Class 12 Exam Pattern 2020: Points to note

  1. Previous Years Question Papers: One of the most effective ways to assess performance is to solve the previous years’ question papers. The question paper pattern will help one get acclimated to the degree of ease or toughness of the paper. It is a good way to get thorough with the vast syllabus.
  2. Formulae and derivations: Science papers, especially physics, has a lot of formulae and derivations to understand and recall. Write these down separately, read through it twice, each day. Make a habit of writing all the formulae and derivations once, every day. This makes it easier to understand and remember them correctly.
  3. Letters and their Bonds: Chemistry paper will require one to know the periodic table and also certain chemical equations. Write this down in order, separately. Go through the list every day. Draw the chemical structures to remember them easily.
  4. Bring out the Artist: Biology papers no doubt has questions that require one to “draw a neat labelled diagram”. It is nearly not enough to just look at the diagram and try to remember the labels. Instead, every weekend, draw all the diagrams that are there in the syllabus and practice labelling them correctly.
  5. Adhere to the stipulated time: It is easy to get carried away during writing the science paper. Solve previous years’ question papers and time them to know exactly how well one can manage the time. Do not waste time unnecessarily by writing lengthy answers devoid of relevance to the question.
  6. Organise your answers: Especially for the lengthy answers, write a short and concise introduction to the concept. Begin the answer with points to justify the answer. Highlight the keywords by underlining them.
  7. Powers: Chemistry paper has numerical problems that involve powers, for example, the Avogadro number. Practice writing the values of the constants so that not to get confused with the various exponential values of each.
  8. Make a schedule and stick to it: This may seem difficult at the beginning, but once one gets used to the schedule, it becomes easy to concentrate for long hours.
  9. Write and Practice: In order to retain the concepts, understand the concept, revise and recall.
  10. Don’t give in to stress or peer pressure: Each student has his/her own speed and method of learning. Practice at a pace that is both comfortable and effective. Finish the tougher portions first and keep the easier ones for the last.
