The Karnataka government has urged the Vice-Chancellors of all the Universities across the state to consider deferring the semester examinations for degree courses by a month, owing to the ongoing COVID third wave. G Kumar Naik, Additional Chief Secretary in the Department of Higher Education stated in a press release that the Vice-Chancellors of all the institutions have been asked to take a call regarding postponing examinations since the syllabus is yet to be completed.
The course could not be completed within the timeframe since offline classes were suspended in view of the surge in COVID-19 third wave, he said.

“Some of the universities had already announced the schedule of semester examinations but the Commissioner of Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE) had written a letter asking to postpone the examinations by a month in order to enable students to better prepare,” Naik said in a statement.

Meanwhile, chaos and confusion prevailed in several pre-university colleges in the state, as they reopened on Wednesday following the break induced by the hijab row. Many Muslim students from across the state boycotted classes after they were asked that they will have to remove their hijabs and burqas to attend class.

Karnataka Minister of Primary and Secondary Education BC Nagesh today told ANI that "I am happy that all schools are running properly and almost all the students have attended the classes, while only in 2-3 schools the girls went back. The government is waiting for the High Court judgment and once it is released, the SOPs in this regard will be issued."
