BCI ordered immediate removal of an advocate from Bar Council of Delhi after he admitted he used fake documents provided by professional scammers to get enrolled. The council is now worried this might be a bigger problem and has ordered a detailed review.

Bar Council of India

The Bar Council of India has issued an order for removal of an advocate who enrolled based on fake law degree and flagged cases of collusion. The council also ordered strict action against those who are a part of granting enrolment. Reportedly, BCI highlighted the matter as an 'exceptional case' considering a collusion involving a long-serving staff member of the State Bar Council and people operating from within the system, as reported by Law Trend.

What's The Case?

The decision originated from a request by the Bar Council of Delhi mentioning a rule in Section 26(1) of the Advocates Act, 1961. This rule allows the local council to refer complex cases to the main Bar Council of India for a final decision on someone's eligibility to practice law.

Following this, the Bar Council contacted Bundelkhand University in Jhansi to verify an advocate's details. On June 26, 2025, the University confirmed that the advocate's degree was fake.

During the investigation, it was found that the two key figures allegedly involved in the collusion i.e. Mr Jagdish and Mr Arbind Panchal. Hence, in the power vested, the council issued the removal of the advocate and dismissal of the staff involved.
