A recent poll conducted by Shiksha has sparked a fresh debate over the relevance of the All India Bar Examination. It is a certification test for law graduates. The poll asked users whether AIBE should continued or not.
According to the poll results, 47% of respondents feel that the AIBE should not be held only. The CoP should be granted based on their graduation performance. This section argues that students already go through so many law school examinations and adding another layer of testing is unnecessary.
The BCI maintains that it is a necessary filter to ensure that only competent candidates enter the legal profession. The poll clearly indicates a growing dissatisfaction among students and early career legal professionals with the current structure of the AIBE. The suggestions to make it skill based altogether reflect a need for the Bar Council to reconsider the format, purpose, and execution.
