In February, the Supreme Court ordered the transfer of all petitions challenging the CLAT 2025 results to the Delhi High Court to ensure a faster and more coordinated legal process. The decision came from a bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, along with Justices Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan.

The bench noted that similar petitions were pending across several high courts—including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Calcutta, Bombay, and Punjab & Haryana. To prevent conflicting judgments and streamline the adjudication, the SC consolidated all cases under one jurisdiction.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs. It serves as the gateway to prestigious National Law Universities (NLUs) across India. Through CLAT, candidates can secure seats in integrated LLB and LLM courses offered by the participating NLUs.

Appearing before the Delhi High Court, the counsel representing another CLAT UG 2025 candidate questioned the validity of one of the exam questions. The argument centers on whether the question was correctly framed and evaluated

If the CLAT 2025 results are revised, candidate rankings are expected to shift. Corrections in evaluation could lead to improved merit positions for some, while others may see a drop. Since NLU seat allotments and cut-offs are determined by rank, any changes in the results will have a direct bearing on admissions.

CLAT 2025 merit list will be released by the Consortium of National Law Universities, mentioning the names and ranks of candidates shortlisted for the seat allotment process. The Consortium of NLUs will publish CLAT 2025 invite list once the CLAT Result 2025 is announced. 

During the CLAT 2025 UG hearing, the counsel for the Consortium of NLUs acknowledged that one of the questions in the undergraduate paper was “wrongly formulated.” He informed the court that the question had not been referred to the Oversight Committee, as it had already been cleared by subject experts.

Note: There are 3, 213 seats for UG courses, and 1,217 seats for PG courses. The candidates who qualified CLAT 2025 will be shortlisted for admission rounds after they complete counseling registration and eligibility-related documentation.

In the CLAT 2025 hearing, the counsel representing the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) argued that judicial interference in exam results is limited to instances where the contested answers are “palpably, demonstrably, and ex facie wrong.” He concluded his submissions pertaining to the petitions challenging the undergraduate (UG) CLAT 2025 results.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 for undergraduate programs was conducted on December 1, 2024, with results announced on December 7, 2024. Subsequently, the results faced legal challenges due to alleged inaccuracies in the answer key. On December 20, 2024, the Delhi High Court identified errors in questions 14 and 100 of Set A, directing the Consortium of National Law Universities to revise the answer key and update the results accordingly. This decision was upheld by a division bench on December 24, 2024. Further petitions regarding the results were transferred to the Delhi High Court by the Supreme Court on February 6, 2025.

In case, two or more candidates score the same marks in CLAT 2025, the Consortium will follow the sequence given below to decide the merit rank for CLAT Result:

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) must ensure the appointment of more qualified and capable paper setters in the future. The observation was made during the last session of hearing, as the court examined the objections raised against specific questions in the CLAT UG 2025 exam.

During the previous hearing, Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao, appearing for the Consortium of NLUs, informed the Delhi High Court that two subject matter experts had differing views on one of the contested questions. He noted, “There is a split opinion,” and clarified that the question, which pertains to logical verbal reasoning involving homeless individuals, was improperly framed.

Apart from the above categories, each NLU has its state domicile quota reserved horizontally in all above categories. The percentage of state domicile reservation is different for all participating NLUs, which is confirmed only at the time of admission and seat allotment process every year.

Candidates participating in CLAT 2025 counselling must keep the following documents ready:

In the last hearing on the CLAT 2025 results, the Delhi High Court division bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela examined discrepancies in the CLAT 2025 answer key. The bench also reviewed the findings and directions issued in the earlier single-judge order.

The Delhi High Court observed that at least one question from this year's Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2025) must be invalidated.

The CLAT 2025 counselling process has been delayed. Initially, the counselling was scheduled to begin on December 11, 2024, with the first allotment list expected on December 26, 2024. However, due to a Delhi High Court order directing the Consortium to revisit the merit list, the release of the first admission list has been postponed. 

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has yet to announce a revised counselling schedule. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official CLAT website (consortiumofnlus.ac.in) for updates.

The Consortium of NLUs has not announced the CLAT 2025 Revised Result Release Date yet. The decision to revise the result or not will be taken by the Delhi HC next hearing. 

A recent poll conducted by Shiksha reveals that 53% of CLAT 2025 aspirants advocate for the CLAT 2025 examination to be re-conducted, citing significant procedural irregularities and legal disputes that have cast a shadow over its integrity.​ The Delhi HC today will be announcing its verdict on CLAT UG Result 2025 and will begin proceedings for CLAT PG 2025.

CLAT 2025 Invite List refers to the list of qualifying candidates who are eligible to participate in the counselling process. The CLAT 2025 invite list will be declared by the Consortium after the announcement of the CLAT 2025 merit list.

During CLAT counselling, candidates will be provided the option to choose from three options; i.e. freeze, float and exit. Candidates can understand all options below:

Freeze Option: In case a candidate is happy with the seat alloted to him/her then they can freeze it. With this they won't be allowed to appear in the further rounds of counselling. If a candidate freezes the seat, it means that the candidate is confirming their seat at the allotted National Law University (NLU).

Float Option: If a candidate is not happy with the seat allotted to them and wants to pariticpate in further rounds of counselling they can select the float option. This option mean that candidate is accepting the seat allotted to them but is willing to pariticpate in further rouns of counselling for a better college. Candidate must note that in case they choose the float option and is allotted a seat in the next round then the seat allotted in the previous round will be forfeited.

Exit Option: During the counselling process, if a candidate feels that they don't want to pariticipate further, then they may choose an option to exit. If they choose this option, it means that they are withdrawing from the counselling process and they will not be considered for further round of counselling. 

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) will conduct CLAT 2025 counselling in online mode. The whole counselling process for CLAT is conducted in online mode. Candidates have to register online to participate in the counselling. Eligible candidates who qualify the exam can register on the official website for the counselling. After that, they have to pay fee to complete the registration process. After registration, candidates have to declare choices for college and course seeking admission into. 

The counselling fee for CLAT 2025 is INR 30,000 for general/OBC category, and INR 20,000, for SC/ST/OBC/BC/EWS/PWD categories. The CLAT counselling fee can only be paid in online mode on the official website of the law entrance exam. The counselling fee candidate need to pay as a token amount against their allotted seat to secure it. After this, candidates will be required to pay the remaining fee against their course, which is the tuition fee+ non-refundable charges+ refundable charges and more. In case, candidates choose to withdraw / exit from their allotted after they freeze/ float, and have paid the counselling fee, then they will get a refund of their amount after deduction of INR 5,000 from it. However, full amount will be refunded only in case when the candidate did not freeze/ float their allotted seat.
