NLU Odisha (NLUO): Courses, Fees, Admission 2025, Placements, Cutoff

NLU Odisha is the best university of Law. It is a government-run university. BA LLB is a five-year integrated programme and its tuition fee at NLU Odisha is INR 1.20 Lacs annually. The total tuition fee is INR 6 lakh. It is a little expensive compared to other government institutes. However, if we compare NLU Odisha with other Law universities, the tuition fees are more or less similar. 

NLU Odisha LLM admission 2024 is done through CLAT. Candidates who qualify for CLAT are required to pay fee for their respective courses, which includes various components such as Tuition Fee, Examination Fee, Security Deposit, Hostel Charges (if applicable), etc. Other than the LLM fee, candidates are required to pay a fee for CLAT application fee. For General /OBC /PWD /PIO /OCI /NRI category candidates, the application fee is INR 4,000 and for SC /ST /BPL category candidates, the application fee is INR 3,500.

The university has not released the recent placements statistics. However, as per the NLU Odisha NIRF report 2024, the median package offered during UG five-year courses, such as BA LLB placements 2023 stood at INR 14.5 LPA. Further, 87 students were placed out of 177 during UG 5-year placements 2023, respectively.

The admission to BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), 3 years LLB, and LLM courses to NLU Odisha is based on CLAT score. After qualifying the exam candidates need to submit the required documents at the time of couselling process as listed below:

• Graduation degree and mark sheet (for LLM course)

Yes, NLU Odisha offers one-year postgraduate programme in LLM course i.e., divided into two semesters and offered in full-time mode. The Course comprises three foundation/ compulsory papers (three credits each), six optional/ specialisation Papers (two credits each) to be notified in each semester, and a dissertation (three-credits). Admission to this course is based on the scores secured in the CLAT entrance test followed by the counselling conducted by CNLU for final seat allotment.

Securing admission to NLUO BBA LL.B. programme with a 75 percentile in CLAT is contingent on various factors. While a 75 percentile is a solid score, the competitive landscape fluctuates annually, impacting the cutoff requirements. Typically recommended for general category candidates is a score between 75 and 80, with an ideal target of 80 to 85 for a competitive edge. Given the estimated cutoff range for top NLUs, including NLUO, falling between 95 and 105, aiming for a higher percentile is advisable. Yearly variations in CLAT cutoffs, distinct cutoffs across categories, and the holistic evaluation of applicants based on academic records and extracurricular activities contribute to the dynamic nature of admissions. To bolster chances, applicants should focus on achieving a higher percentile, strengthening overall application aspects, and submitting applications early to demonstrate commitment and interest in NLUO. While a 75 percentile is commendable, there is no guarantee of admission, emphasizing the importance of a strategic approach and awareness of evolving admission criteria.

The NLUO Odisha CLAT Cutoff 2026 was published for various categories under both the All India and Home State quota, unlike many other NLUs. The cutoff was out for Round 1 in the form of opening and closing ranks. According to that, the closing ranks ranged from 800 to 907 for the General AI category for admission to the BA LLB (Hons), LLM course, and BBA LLB course. For this category, the hardest out of the 3 courses was BA LLB (Hons), with a cutoff of 800. 

In the case of the General HS quota, the closing cutoff in Round 1 ranged from 2855 to 10269, wherein BA LLB ( Hons) was the most sought-after course, followed by BBA LLB (Hons), with cutoffs of 2855 and 3133, respectively.

NLUO offers admission to BBA LLB course based on the CLAT entrance exam score and counselling. Below-mentioned are the NLUO BBA LLB course eligibility along with their selection criteria:

For admission to BA LLB course at NLUO candidates have to register through CLAT portal. Registered candidates for CLAT counselling will be called by NLUO through five provisional merit lists, each released by the Consortium of CLAT. Candidates, who have been allocated a seat in the provisional lists and applied for revision, should check the status of their seat in the CLAT provisonal lists. Those, who have been allotted a seat in the NLU Orissa Provisional Allotment Lists, must complete the process of exercising any one of the actions mentioned below:

1. Accept the allotted seat
2. Apply for Revise
3. Exit from the CLAT admission process

If alloted seat is accepted by the candidate. After, that the candidates need to report to NLU Odisha for admission. The admission confirmation requires, documents submission and fees submission by the candidates through the official portal of NLU Odisha.
