Q:   How are BBA LL.B. placements at NLUO?
A:

National Law University Odisha demonstrates a commendable placement record for its BBA LL.B. graduates, with over 70% of the 2022 batch securing placements within six months of graduation. Graduates have found placements in prestigious law firms such as Amarchand & Mangaldas, Khaitan & Co, and corporate houses including Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, and IT giants like Infosys and Wipro. Government agencies such as the Supreme Court of India and the Central Bureau of Investigation also feature among the placement destinations. The average salary package for BBA LL.B. graduates stands at around INR 9 LPA, with top performers earning significantly more. This success can be attributed to NLUO strong academic reputation, industry-relevant curriculum, an active placement cell, and a robust alumni network. Q:   Does NLU Odisha have a state domicile reservation?
A:

Yes, NLU Odisha have a state domicile reservation for the candidates belonging to various categories under Home State. Moreover, for the aforementioned courses, the General AI quota cutoff stood at 943 and 1034, respectively.

Q:   What is the minimum cutoff for LL.M at NLUO 2023?
A:

To qualify for admission to the LL.M. programme at NLUO, candidates were required to meet certain criteria, including holding an LL.B or equivalent degree from a recognised institute, securing at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories), and obtaining a minimum of 50% marks in the examination from any recognised College/University in the state of Odisha.

Furthermore, the CLAT cutoff for LL.M. admissions is based on All India Ranks. These CLAT cutoff ranges play a significant role in determining eligibility and admission to the LL.M. programme at NLUO, contributing to the overall minimum cutoff criteria for the year 2023.

Commonly asked questions
On Fees and Eligibility
Q:   Which entrance exam scores does NLUO accept for admission to LL.M?
A:

National Law University Odisha accepts Common Law Admission Test scores for admission to its LL.M program. To be eligible, you need a Bachelor degree in Law with at least 50% marks and a valid CLAT score. Even if you're in your final year of LL.B., you can apply as long as you have secured 50% marks until your last declared semester or year. The admission process is competitive, and while the CLAT score is crucial, NLUO may also consider your academic record and extracurricular activities. In 2023, the highest CLAT score for LL.M admission at NLUO was 504.

Q:   Which entrance exam scores are accepted by NLUO for admission?
A:

National Law University Odisha places paramount importance on the scores obtained in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for admissions to its diverse law programs. This encompasses both undergraduate (UG) courses like BBA LL.B. and BA LL.B., as well as postgraduate courses such as LLM. CLAT stands as a pivotal national level entrance examination, serving as the primary criterion in NLUO admission process.

CLAT is designed to comprehensively evaluate a candidate's aptitude and eligibility for pursuing legal studies. The examination assesses various skills, including proficiency in English, general knowledge, legal reasoning, logical reasoning, and quantitative techniques. The aggregate scores across these sections determine a candidate overall performance, influencing their eligibility for admission to NLUO.

As a standardized and widely recognised examination, CLAT ensures a fair and uniform evaluation process for candidates aspiring to join NLUO law programs. The university reliance on CLAT scores underscores its commitment to a merit-based selection process, emphasizing academic excellence and aptitude in legal studies.

Prospective students are advised to diligently prepare for CLAT, considering its pivotal role in securing admission to NLUO. The university may establish specific score requirements for different courses or categories, and applicants should stay abreast of the latest admission criteria and score expectations, which are regularly updated on the official NLUO website.

In conclusion, CLAT serves as the linchpin in NLUO's admission process, reflecting the university commitment to maintaining high academic standards and ensuring a rigorous yet equitable evaluation of candidates aspiring to contribute to the legal field through their education at NLUO.

Q:   How many students can do BBA LL.B. at NLUO?
A:

The National Law University Odisha currently allows 60 students to enroll in the BBA LL.B. program, as mentioned on their official website. However, it is essential to keep in mind that this number can be adjusted by the university norms, and for the latest details, it is best to reach out to the NLUO officilla webiste or admissions office directly. They can provide the most accurate and the latest information regarding the number of students accepted into the BBA LL.B. program.

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for LL.M at NLUO?
A:

The LL.M. programme admission criteria at National Law University Odisha require candidates to have a Bachelor degree in Law (LL.B.) with a minimum of 50% marks. Those in the final year of their LL.B. can also apply, but they must have secured at least 50% marks until the last declared semester or year. A valid Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) score is mandatory. Besides CLAT, the university may consider factors like academic record and extracurricular activities. To apply, candidates can use the online application process available on the NLUO website, usually open from May to June. It is important to note that the admission process is highly competitive, and the university reserves the right to make changes to the eligibility criteria and application process. For the latest information, applicants are advised to check the NLUO website before applying.

Q:   Can I get BBA LL.B. at NLUO with 75 percentile in CLAT?
A:

Securing admission to NLUO BBA LL.B. programme with a 75 percentile in CLAT is contingent on various factors. While a 75 percentile is a solid score, the competitive landscape fluctuates annually, impacting the cutoff requirements. Typically recommended for general category candidates is a score between 75 and 80, with an ideal target of 80 to 85 for a competitive edge. Given the estimated cutoff range for top NLUs, including NLUO, falling between 95 and 105, aiming for a higher percentile is advisable. Yearly variations in CLAT cutoffs, distinct cutoffs across categories, and the holistic evaluation of applicants based on academic records and extracurricular activities contribute to the dynamic nature of admissions. To bolster chances, applicants should focus on achieving a higher percentile, strengthening overall application aspects, and submitting applications early to demonstrate commitment and interest in NLUO. While a 75 percentile is commendable, there is no guarantee of admission, emphasizing the importance of a strategic approach and awareness of evolving admission criteria.

The life at NLUO College review.
Placements: In our college, almost 35-40% of students get placed every year. The average package is 10 LPA. Reputed companies like Trilegal, Khaitan, and Indus Law visit our college to recruit students. Top roles depend on the company where students get placed.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are actually pretty good. You get furnished classrooms with ACs and projectors. There is a library, amphitheater, seminar hall, etc., for some special events. The food is also not bad. You get a decent four meals a day for Rs.20,000 in one month. There is a wellness center, and Wi-Fi is also available.
Faculty: Faculty is pretty good, actually. They are helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. The course is really relevant to the present world. You get sixty different subjects to study in five years. Moreover, I am a student of BBA LL.B., which makes me aware of corporate accounting.
Other: I have actually chosen BBA LL.B. as it gives me knowledge of the law along with the business world. There are two fests arranged every year in the college, and several extracurricular activities are also held, like mooting, arbitration, etc.

I am decently satisfied with our college.
Placements: Placements differ from batch to batch. Placements for the 2021 batch are not completed yet. Around 31 students out of the entire batch of 2020 got placed in companies like Khaitan and Co, L&L Partners, Argus Partners, Fox Mandal and Co and Aquilaw.
Infrastructure: We have a temporary library in 3 rooms now, and the building is being built. It is open till 3 am. NLUO has a bank ATM, Nescafe, stationery and printing shop, canteen and mess, juice shop and a decent gym. The mess is student-run, and there is a good quality of food.
Faculty: The course curriculum is relevant and taught well. There is a lot of flexibility in class timings, which allows us to prioritise moots, debates, research and internships. Classes are conducted from 9 am to 1 pm and 10 am to 2 pm for offline college. Online classes are from 9 am to 4:15 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 1 pm on weekends.

Impressive placements in 2023.
Placements: Out of 80 students who participated in the recruitment process, 71 were placed in the 2023 batch. The average package was 11.7 LPA. The highest package stood at 18 LPA. The top recruiters were Trilegal, Luthra and Luthra, Induslaw, Khaitan & Co., and Saraf and Partners.
Infrastructure: The college has a very decent infrastructure. It has Wi-Fi all over the campus. NLUO has Asia's biggest law library with centralized AC. Except for the hostel, you will find centralized AC on campus. It has 3 canteens, one of which works during the day and the other two during the night, along with one Nescafe shop and a juice centre. The mess food is average. The college has one outdoor sports court, a sports room for indoor sports, one cricket ground, and a football field with a gym.
Faculty: The teachers are highly qualified here, but sometimes there is a disturbance in the classes due to repetitive changes of professors. The professors are also available after college hours for any doubt-solving sessions. The course is well updated according to the needs of the legal industry, and it has 6 subjects per semester. In NLUO, there are only two end-of-semester exams per semester, which are 70 marks in theory and 30 marks in project and viva. The passing marks are 49.5 out of 100, which is approximately 50%.

Our college is disillusioned, but a reality for most universities.
Placements: Most of the students get placed from our college. However, in the recent batches, placements have been getting better, with dozens being recruited from on-campus recruitments. L&L, Khaitan, CAM, and SAM are some of the major recruiters. The average salary package offered ranges from 12 LPA - 14 LPA. The internship committee has been very active since 2018, and in 2019. More than 60 internships were secured for winter and summer internships each.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi is adequate and is available for multiple devices (earlier it was one device per student). Classrooms are good, though maintenance is needed. Bathrooms in the academic block are in bad shape, though those in hostels are good and maintained properly. The library is congested as two classrooms have been converted into libraries. There is a huge building under construction for years now to be the library. Optimistically, the PWD has taken up construction, and it shows positive steps of actually being completed in very few years. The hostel is somewhat good, and you get single occupancy rooms. Structural problems like leakage of water are prevalent in the older buildings, especially the girls hostels. The mess is pretty damn good. The mess committee is made up of students, and every day the food served is different. Non-vegetarian food is served thrice in a week, usually at nights. Medical facilities have been sorely lacking for a long time and only recently have positive steps being taken. There are many ambulances, medicines, etc. Sports facilities are moderate. We also have 2 basketball courts and two courts for tennis, badminton and volleyball. Space for the football field is available, but it has not been worked on. Those who play cricket usually go to the Barabati Stadium on the university bus.
Faculty: Some teachers in our college are amazing and make you critically analyse what you study. Many of the good faculty members have left for various reasons, but some remain that give hope. The course curriculum, in general, is unchanged. The chronology of subjects taught is confusing. However, teachers themselves update their lesson plans regularly. It doesn't seem that other universities are much better off, as everything falls on the teachers in charge and how they handle it all.
Other: Mooting culture is very strong, though institutional support is not very encouraging. The diversity among students make it an interesting place to say the least - you get to adult. The campus is isolated and is located on the outskirts of the town. The safety outside campus is not guaranteed, but it is safe inside. The campus is large enough, with plenty of trees around and two rivers flanking either side.

The infrastructure of the college is good.
Placements: Placements for our senior batch are good. They got hired in top law firms like Amarchand, Khaitan & Co., Luthra and Luthra, etc. There is a placement committee in the university which is a student body and supervised by a faculty adviser. The committee plays a key role in acquiring placements.
Infrastructure: The college provides excellent infrastructural facilities. There are single accommodation rooms available in our hostels with a good canteen which offers north Indian and south Indian food. The college provides unlimited Wi-Fi facility. There is a library with several books, and we have an amphitheatre, sports complex, etc.
Faculty: The college provides highly qualified faculty members. The course curriculum is well-structured to meet the practical needs of law in society. Most of the subjects are taught by more than one lecturer. There are professors, assistant professors, associate professors, and lecturers who have mastered in different subjects.

Placements of NLUO are above average as compared to other NLUs.
Placements: Out of a batch strength of 180, more than 70 students were placed last year. The highest salary package offered was 15 LPA by Cyril Amalchand Mangaldas. The average salary package offered was 8 LPA-10 LPA. The lowest salary package offered was 8 LPA. TriLegal, Khaitan & Co., Luthra & Associates, and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas are some of the top recruiting firms at our college. Roles offered in our course are legal intern, junior associate, etc.
Infrastructure: Hostels are not that great. Rooms are very small, with double sharing in the first year. Food is good, mess is operated by students themselves so food has variety and taste also. Hostels and classrooms have Wi-Fi, and also library is one of the biggest in Asia.
Faculty: The teaching quality in the first semester was above average. Teachers are ready to clear doubts in between classes, also helpful to share PPTs for the notes. Course curriculum is relevant as it includes law subjects and management subjects as mentioned in the integrated course. Semester exams are quite difficult as the weightage of questions ranges from 15 marks to 25 marks. NLUO offers only an end-sem examination system. There are no mid-semester exams. Pass percentage is 34%, with 75% attendance criteria as per UGC guidelines to be allowed to sit in examinations.
Other: I chose this course because I come from a Commerce background. I have an interest in the management part of it and wanted to pursue law. I wish course offered more commerce subjects among the 5 subjects offered. I wanted to do Accounting in the first semester itself. The university conducts sports fest, cultural fests, and academic seminars every year. They also provide scholarships for IDIA scholars.
