Private schools in Madhya Pradesh have written to Chief Minister Shivraj  Singh Chouhan to not waive off fees, as it will put them in financial burden.

After parents have demanded a fee waiver during the lockdown period, a private CBSE school has written to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, addressing their problems and the reason fees should not be waived off.

The private schools are able to sustain only with the help of the fee they receive from the students, the letter stated.

The Madhya Pradesh Private Unaided Schools Welfare Society has said that they are already paying bank loans, staff salaries, bills, and taxes. If the government will order full or partial waiver of the students’ fee, many self-funded schools have to shut down due to the financial burden.

“There are many schools in the state whose only source of fund is the students’ fee. Through that fee, they pay their monthly EMIs, bills and give salaries to their staff and teachers. Schools are already teaching students through online classes, so the academic session has begun. Asking for a fee waiver, can lead to the closure of schools,” said Dinesh Varma, Spokesperson of the Association.

The school has more than 1,50,000 teaching and non-teaching staff members, along with third-party vendors, small businesses, etc., and if the school fee is waived off it will impact all the stakeholders in the proper functioning of the school.

The private schools are already teaching 25 percent of students from economically backward classes, free of cost and the reimbursement of the fees is still pending from the government side, which is also adding financial burden, said Varma.
