The closure of Maharashtra schools is being suspected by many since the state started reporting a surge in Omicron cases. However, amid the rising cases of the novel coronavirus, Health Minister Rajesh Tope has confirmed that Maharashtra Schools will not be closed at present, putting an end to all sorts of speculations surrounding the issue. Raising important points related to the vaccination of school children, the Maharashtra Health Minister that increasing the vaccination rates is the need of the hour and hence, rather than closing schools, the government is trying to focus its attention and resources on vaccinating school students.

Maharashtra government ordered the reopening of schools from December 1, 2021, for students of classes 1 to 7, after the state reported a significant fall in COVID-19 cases. However, within the last 15 odd days, the tables have turned. Many states including Delhi announced the closure of schools. However, now Maharashtra has decided that rather than closing schools, the government is trying to focus its attention and resources on vaccinating school students. Those who are in the age group of 15 to 18 years, will be taken in batches to the vaccination centres. This decision of Maharashtra schools not closing is also applicable to Mumbai schools as of now.

The tweet from ANI reads, "I urge everyone to avoid crowding & follow guidelines to avoid infection. Schools students (15-18 yrs) should be taken in batches to vaccination centres.
