During his meeting with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Revanth Reddy demanded establishing an IIM in Hyderabad.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during his recent meeting with central ministers has demanded establishing a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad, setting up 105 Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRS) across state. He also demanded major laboratory and college infrastructure upgrades, and additional central schools to match Telangana’s expanded administrative map.
Push for IIM and more central schools
In talks with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, CM made a strong case for establishing an IIM in Hyderabad, highlighting the city’s rapid growth in sectors like technology, life sciences, aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
Telangana has already identified 200 acres at the University of Hyderabad campus for the institute, with a transit campus ready to begin operations. The state government has offered all necessary clearances and support.
₹30,000 crore education investment plan
During a meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament, Reddy outlined an ambitious plan requiring ₹30,000 crore to overhaul Telangana’s education ecosystem.
This includes:
₹21,000 crore for constructing 105 YIIRS, each with classrooms, hostels, labs and stadiums for around 2,560 students from classes 5–12, directly benefiting about 2.7 lakh students and indirectly supporting many more nearby government schools.
₹9,000 crore for modernising laboratories, infrastructure and facilities in junior colleges, degree colleges, technical institutes and other higher-edu institutions.
Reddy asked for loans raised via a Special Purpose Centre (SPC) for these projects to be exempted from Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) limits, urging the Centre to treat the expenditure as an investment in human capital. Sitharaman responded positively, asking for details of the SPC mechanism.
Reddy also sought sanction for nine new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 16 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) to align central schooling options with the state’s increased number of districts, with Telangana ready to provide land and facilities for these institutions.
