While pre-primary students are asked not to carry any school bag, Class 1 and 2 students are directed that the weight of their bag must not exceed 1.5 Kg. The notification also states that for classes 3 to 5, the permissible weight of school bags is 3 kg, for Class 6 and 7 it is 4 Kg, Class 8 and 9 it is 5 Kg and class 10 students can carry bags weighing up to 5.5 Kg.

Talking about the notebooks to carry, the Department stated that ‘no formal books are prescribed at pre-primary (Nursery, LKG, UKG) levels. However, students of these classes may be provided a maximum two notebooks/workbooks to be kept in the teachers’ custody in the school itself.’
