Bihar STET: According to latest update, the Bihar State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) will no longer will conducted in the state for recruitment of government teachers of Class 1 to Class 8.

Instead of STET, now the recruitment will be based only on Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The Education Department had previously stated that this exam will not be conducted at present and an eligibility test may be conducted later on.

Candidates were waiting for the STET for the fourth phase of the Bihar Teacher Recruitment Examination. They were demanding that the STET to be conducted before the BPSC TRE 4.

What Changes To Expect From Discontinuation of Bihar STET?

Following are the changes candidates can expect with discontinuation of Bihar STET and conduction of CTET only:

  • The CTET syllabus is based on NCERT while STET is based on Bihar SCERT or Board.
  • CTET is considered more competitive than the STET as CTET is national level examination whereas STET is state level examination.
  • Though CTET does not test regional languages. However, it has been decided to include Maithili language.
  • This is likely increase the share of outside candidates.
  • According to some experts, STET better addresses local needs as compared to CTET.
  • This will definitely impact the state-level teacher recruitment.

Bihar Teachers Recruitment To Be Based on Single Exam CTET

Now, candidates need to take only one exam CTET exam and there is no need to take the STET separately. As a result, they need not prepare for two exams CTET and STET.  Those who qualify for CTET can also apply to central government schools that expand career options.
CTET is conducted twice a year that allow more candidates to qualify.  If teachers are recruited through the CTET, the quality of teachers can improve as the exam focuses more on pedagogy and child development.
