Changes announced by CBSE for conduct of CTET 2021

The press release signed by the CTET Director introduces a few changes in the conduct of the CTET exam. Here we have shared the changes below.

CTET exam to be conducted online

It will be the first time ever since the beginning of the conduct of CTET that the exam will be held in online mode. Until now, the exam was conducted offline in pen and paper mode wherein candidates were required to mark their answers in an OMR sheet. However, now the exam will be conducted online as a computer-based test. The move would also facilitate faster processing and declaration of CTET results. The decision has been taken in line with the new NEP 2020 that emphasizes digital literacy, digital pedagogy, the use of technology and its integration for a digitally empowered society.

Questions to assess conceptual understanding, problem-solving & critical thinking

The CTET 2021 exam will be conducted as per the existing CTET syllabus and exam pattern. The structure of the CTET question papers will also remain the same for Paper 1 and Paper 2. However, the questions will now be developed to assess the conceptual understanding of candidates and their application, problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking.

The focus of the CTET paper will now be less on factual knowledge and more on assessing candidates' understanding of teaching the subject, their knowledge relevance of the subject and their pedagogic content knowledge. There will be questions to assess the planning of teaching-learning experiences, usage of teaching-learning aids, strategies for developing conceptual clarity, and assessment methodologies specific to the concept. This change is also in line with the NEP 2020 that emphasises strengthening TET for better test material in terms of content and pedagogy.

CTET exam to be compliant with COVID protocols

CBSE would ensure that the online CTET exam is compliant with the strict COVID protocols to ensure the safety of candidates against the pandemic.

CTET facilitation centres to be set up

The CBSE will be setting up the CTET facilitation centres in the districts. Candidates will be allowed to attempt online CTET mock tests at these centres free of cost.
