Supreme Court has given UPSC one week to file plan on Screen-Reader Facility. The bench has listed the matter for further hearing on February 23, 2026. Read below for more details.

The Supreme Court has granted UPSC one week to submit a detailed plan on implementing screen-reader facilities for visually impaired candidates appearing in civil services and other exams.
The apex court has also instructed UPSC to file a detailed affidavit in two months with outline of proposed course of action, method and Schedule for deploying screen reader software in examinations conducted by it.
The affidavit should make it clear that if facility can be made available to eligible candidates form the next exam cycle. It should clearly explain the measures planned for testing, standardizing and validating the software and related infrastructure.
The case was heard by a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. UPSC's counsel informed the court that the Commission was complying with the directions and sought one week to place the affidavit on record.

Next hearing on UPSC's Submit Screen-Reader Implementation Plan on February 23

The Supreme Court has listed the matter for hearing on February 23, 2026. The court directed the Commission to ensure that every exam notification states that the candidate who are entitled to a scribe may apply to change the scribe up to seven days before the exam.
The Court directed the Commission to issue a reasoned decision within three working days of getting the application after a thorough examination. The development is expected to be helpful for visually impaired aspirants appearing Β in the UPSC exams.
