Q: Could you please tell us a bit about your family background?
Neer Sharma: My family consists of my mother, father, and grandparents. My mother is a teacher at Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar, the same school from which I completed my schooling. My father works at a pharmaceutical company, and my grandfather is a retired government school teacher.
Q: How did you feel about your CUET UG 2024 results?
Neer Sharma: I appeared for English, History, Political Science, Geography, and Mass Media Studies in CUET UG 2024 and scored 1000/1000, achieving a perfect score across all subjects. When I checked the answers from the final answer key, I was able to get a rough estimate of my score, but when the scorecard was released, I was elated.
Q: Can you tell us about your choice of stream in 10+2 and your performance?
Neer Sharma: I opted for Humanities after my 10th board exams, scoring 91%. I am grateful that my parents supported my decision to pursue Humanities. In class 12, I scored 95.6%, with a perfect score in Geography.
Q: What was your strategy for scoring so high in CUET?
Neer Sharma: My strategy focused heavily on NCERT books. I read each subject's NCERT textbook 4-5 times and used test series from Adda247. I found that practicing with these test series was crucial as I encountered many similar questions in the actual exam.
Q: Who supported you the most during your CUET preparation?
Neer Sharma: My parents and my Political Science teacher at school, Ms. Saudamini, and my Geography teacher Mr. Rahul Singhal, were incredibly supportive during my exams. My Political Science teacher developed my interest in the subject due to which I wish to take up political science for my higher studies.
Q: Can you describe your routine during CUET exam preparation?
Neer Sharma: I used to divide my week into parts. For example, I would study History, Geography, and Political Science for two days each and focus entirely on English on Sundays. Also, I would attempt the test series by Adda247 to test my preparation at the end of each day.
From the year 2021 onwards, CUET is conducted in computer-based mode. Till 2020, the exam was conducted in paper-pencil based (PBT) mode. The exam will continue to be conducted in the computer-based mode or online mode. As per the CUET exam pattern, the exam was conducted in two to three slots, depending on the number of applications received in a subject. There were three sections on Language, Domain Subject and General Test (optional). The number of questions and marks will vary from paper to paper.
Through CUET, one can secure admission in various UG courses offered by 41 Central Universities, 36 State Universities, 29 Deemed Universities and 110 Private Universities and three other universities of India. The courses are offered across Science, Humanities, Commerce, Engineering, Law, Management and other streams. The number of participating institutes has increased exponentially this year.
Q: What are your future plans and career goals?
Neer Sharma: I wish to appear for UPSC and Haryana PSC in the future.
Q: When did you start preparing for CUET?
Neer Sharma: I was able to cover most of the syllabus during my preparation for the board exams but after finishing my board exams I started reading the NCERT more minutely to prepare myself for the MCQ-based exam.
Q: Which courses and universities are you targeting?
Neer Sharma: I am currently targeting Political Science Hons at Hindu College, Delhi University, and Geography Hons, and Kirorimal College as a backup option.
Q: What advice would you give to students preparing for CUET 2025?
Neer Sharma: I would just like to tell the next batch of students to understand the exam structure first. Attempt as many mock tests as they can and most importantly read NCERTs in great detail as questions can appear from any corner of the textbook. I would also like to emphasize that preparing for CUET is not a 2-month affair and requires preparation from the very start.
