Tamil Nadu Chief Minister inaugurates latest projects of higher education department
The Chief Minister inaugurated buildings and hostels constructed for students at a cost of Rs 58.21 crore at Government Arts and Science Colleges, Government Engineering Colleges, Government Polytechnic Colleges in various districts and Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on October 5, 2020, inaugurated completed projects of the Higher Education Department at various places. According to an official press release, the minister also laid the foundation for establishing infrastructure facilities of the higher education department. Buildings and hostels constructed for students at a cost of Rs 58.21 crore at Government Arts and Science Colleges, Government Engineering Colleges, Government Polytechnic Colleges in various districts and Manonmaniam Sundaranar University were inaugurated by the chief minister. Mr Palaniswami also laid the foundation through video conferencing from the secretariat here for postgraduate and research wings for new departments of Computer Science, Physics and Commerce, hostels for students and residences for the Vice Chancellor on premises of Thiruvalluvar University, Katpadi to come up at a total cost of Rs 25.25 crore, the release said.
The official release also informed that in the last nine years, 66 government arts and science colleges / affiliated arts and science colleges, four government engineering colleges and 19 multi-technical colleges have been started in various parts of Tamil Nadu. "As a result, Tamil Nadu has become the leading state in India with 49 per cent enrollment ratio in higher education," the release added.
Meanwhile, The Tamil Nadu Government on Tuesday, i.e. September 29, 2020, withdrew its decision to reopen schools for students of Class 10 to Class 12 from October 1. However, earlier, the state government granted permission stating that students of Classes 10 to 12 in Tamil Nadu can go to their schools on a voluntary basis by following the Standard Operating Procedure to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Like other academic institutions of the country, schools in Tamil Nadu are closed since the month of March in view of the COVID-19 outbreak followed by the lockdown imposed in order to contain the virus.
