UGC to create common platform for appointment of faculties in different universities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that it will establish a uniform website to fill several open positions for faculty members in 45 core universities, starting from professors to assistant professors. As per the senior UGC official, the applicants will be able to create profiles on the website and submit their applications immediately there. At present, each university issues a unique call for applicants.
With this, the aspirants will not have to go to websites of the 45 universities to learn about opportunities. For them to apply using their profile, they only need to click once. As per the reprts, it would make the process clear and easy to follow, and interviews would be handled by the proper departments. A similar appointment process is used in 23 IITs across the country.
The official stated that the timeline will not be limited to core universities. Currently, it will only apply to core universities. We would eventually invite IITs, IIMs, public universities, and private universities to advertise their job openings here to act as a forum for academic employment, the official continued.
According to recent statements made by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the Lok Sabha, 6,180 professor, associate professor, and assistant professor seats out of the 18,956 sanctioned positions are vacant in central universities.
Out of the 11,170 sanctioned posts, there were 4,502 unfilled vacancies in IITs as of December 2022, but there were 493 available positions in IIMs out of the 1,566 faculty positions. "Vacancies are created and filled in a continuing process. The relevant Central Acts were followed in the creation of central universities, which are autonomous organisations. Their statutory bodies design their hiring process in accordance with their acts, statutes, regulations, and UGC guidelines or recommendations, according to what Education Minister had previously said.
