The written exam is the main component of the exam process, as it has the highest weightage in the IAS exam. It has the following nine papers. The merit list is prepared and the number of candidates selected for the personality test is only 2.5 times of the vacancies.

IAS Main Personality Test

IAS personality test is the face-to-face interview with the UPSC interview board members. Every year, interview boards are constituted to take interviews. UPSC members serve as the head of the interview board. It includes members from all walks of life. There is no prescribed syllabus for the interview and the board is free to ask anything.

The final merit is prepared based on the marks secured in the written and personality test. There are various permutations and combinations of calculations for arriving at the final merit list, such as the category of the candidate. After releasing the result, service allocation is done based on the options filled by the candidate, category, vacancy in the state and the insider and outsider consideration for the state.
