Andhra Pradesh government has said that it will go ahead with the decision to introduce English medium for students studying in Classes 1 to 6.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the state government will proceed with the decision of introducing English medium for Classes 1 to 6, as education is the only answer to eradicate poverty from our country.

The government will move ahead with its plan to introduce English medium from Class 1 to 6 although a law in this regard, which was passed in the state assembly, has been challenged in court, Reddy said.

"There could be some teething problems but we are ready to face the challenges," an official statement quoted the chief minister said.

While addressing a gathering of the students, teachers, and academicians at a brainstorming session on Education, he said, that it is the only possible investment that could help in the upliftment of people out of poverty.

While talking on the decision to introduce the English medium, he said that the state government is providing training to teachers and bridge courses to children and very soon, we can see children passing out, completing board exams, in the natural course.

Reddy said some vested interests have tried to block the decision of introducing English medium from Class 1 to 6.

"The state government has moved to the Supreme court and our resolve is firm and we will go ahead with the reforms," he said.

The chief minister said that the state government had conducted two surveys according to which it was found that parents want English medium education for their children.

"A survey was done taking the views of parents committees on English medium, and 94 percent replied in the affirmative. Another survey was conducted, this time reaching out to parents of 40 lakh students asking them to pick their option, and an overwhelming 96 percent said that they want to send their children to study in English medium," the chief minister said.
