Mystory@Pritam Kashyap

When I came to Class 10, I was a little confused but I was sure that I would take science because I loved Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. I was confused about other subjects, like whether to choose Biology, Computer Science or Economics. I went through the internet and consulted with teachers and my parents. They told me to choose Economics but I wasn’t interested. I loved Biology. I was inspired by the works of Darwin and Mendel. Hence I chose it. I was very good in Biology and Chemistry but Mathematics confused me. This confusion in Mathematics also led to difficulties in Physics numerical but somehow I managed.

I would like to go to Oxford University and study Biochemistry or Plant Science.

I wanted to become a doctor or a scientist, but right now, I am preparing for my civil services examinations and I think I would clear it. I feel I haven’t made any mistake till now, but have wasted time. But I think I will cope up.

How I cracked college admission

I wanted to become a doctor and it was my first priority. My second dream was a scientist. I appeared for All India Medical Entrance Exam but could not clear it. I did not want to drop a year to study for medical entrances again, because I thought if dropped a year, I would lose one year of my life and I will lag behind my peers. I got a call from many private institutions and my dad told that Thapar University is good and I would get Biotechnology as per my medical entrance test performance, but I refused to join because it was a private institution.

When the first cut-off of Delhi University was announced, my father advised me to choose a Science course in a South Campus college as North campus was too far from my home. I got Sri Venkateswara College as per my cut off but due to lack of a document, I was not able to get BSc (Hons). I waited for the second cut off but the second cut was closed for General category and only one college, Acharya Narendra Dev College was left for me. I checked India Today’s ranking and found that this college ranked 8th in Delhi and 22nd in India. So, my dad agreed for it and I finally took admission in Botany.

If I get a chance, I would like to go to Oxford University and study Biochemistry or Plant Science.

How I spent my college years

My college years were good. I loved studying Botany but hated doing assignments. I found practical classes very valuable and loved my Zoology lectures. My Zoology teacher was very good and she taught amazingly.

My college’s infrastructure it is not lavish but it has good enough space to sit, walk and hang around. I did theatre and acting in my college years. I also learned a bit of French. I was a member of several societies like, photography society, debating society and also participated in quizzes. I have won medals and trophies for my research work too.

I loved the trips and parties organized by our college. It gave us the chance to explore and learn new things.

Despite of all this, we had to keep studies as our first priority, and I managed and secured second rank in my college and course.

One thing about my college that I want to improve is its Administration department. The staff of that department was very lazy. If given a chance, I would like to change that, so that no one has any problem.
