Hello Muhammad,
I am afraid one can not legally work on an aircraft as maintenance engineer without license from DGCA. But all the institutes offering AME enable students to take on this license exam.

Hello Karthik, Its nice to see your query. Many students are getting confused. Shakespeare had famously said "What's in a name. A rose is a rose ". But in India institutes try to mislead by giving fancy sounding names to courses. Any engineering course needs to be approved by AICTE & is of four years duration. Degree of B.Tech or BE is awarded after successful completion. On the other hand aircraft main courses are approved by DGCA and are of three years duration. Degree of B.Sc. Is normally awarded. Hello Prem, Presently in India there is nothing like AME! Passenger as well as cargo traffic is increasing year on year by almost 15%. This has made almost all Indian airlines purchasing large number of aeroplanes. Now this in turn has fuelled requirement of trained AME's. There is one college situated in HAL premises called HAL-Pravara that is giving training to become AME.

Hello Rahul, Aeronautical engineering courses are of four years duration and need to be recognised by AICTE. On the other hand, AME courses are of three years duration and need to be recognised by DGCA.

Hello Rushikesh, Actually speaking aeronautical engineering is the name of the course and aerospace is the name of industry operating in this field. Presently at least in India there is hardly any scope for employment in core areas. On the other hand, AME deals with servicing and main of civilian aircraft. In India passenger as well as cargo traffic is increasing by around 15% per year. This means more aeroplanes in Indian skies which in turn means more AME requirement. Tremendous opportunities for job.

Hello Abdu, Aircraft Maintenance engineering is actually not an engineering branch. Students passing out of these courses are enabled to obtain DGCA liscence. In India air traffic is increasing by as much as 10% PA. This has already resulted in many airlines purchasing aeroplanes. Hence prospects are quite good for some years ahead.
