You should not limit your search to only Coimbatore but to entire India. Most of the institutes offer certificate & diploma courses in game design. Many of them are not even affiliated to any university. Look for colleges such as MIT, Pune, DSKIC Pune, Artemisia College of Art & Design, Indore (Govt. University), which offer 3-4 years duration in-depth degree courses in Game design. NID Ahemdabad offers Masters degree in Game Design. Do not confuse Game Design with Game programming. Game Design usually would mean the artistic, the creative part of developing a Game. Also remember that without learning 2D Animation, you can become a good game designer. You must develop very good sketching & painting skills also while completing your degree course.

Please first understand which degrees are offered in Animation. B.Sc. Animation & VFX is a 3-years duration course. Bachelor of Design (B. Des. ). Course in Animation is a 4-years duration course. The four years course includes 2d, 3d, VFX, etc. The difference between the two degrees is that the B. Des. Course is not only 1 year more but offers usually an international syllabus, which is completely focused on Animation only. Few of the top colleges are Artemisia College of Art & Design (Govt. University), MIT, Pune, NID, Ahmedabad (the top in the country), DSK, Pune, etc. While selecting college, consider factors such as the fee, whether the faculty has animation industry experience or not, whether the college has facilities such as its own animation production studio, whether the college teaches classical animation (base of all kind of animation) or not, etc. Availability of equipments such as Light boxes, etc. should be there. Do your own research by calling various colleges or email them. Do not go for training institutes or certificate and diploma courses as they teach superficially. Look for colleges, preferably affiliated to the government universities. Usually they are cheaper and more authentic.
