If we don't consider personal interest and look only at scope within LPU, then Mechanical Engineering clearly has more scope than Automobile Engineering.

At LPU, there is no standalone Automobile Engineering degree at the UG level. Automobile-related subjects are covered within Mechanical Engineering through electives, labs, projects, and student activities. So in practice, automobile engineering is more of a subset of mechanical engineering here.

Since you've already completed a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, B.Tech Mechanical at LPU gives you:

Dear Ashif, It depends on the college you get. The number of good institutes providing B.Tech in Automobile Engineering is less. In fact very few like VIT, LPU, RJIT, PSG, etc. IITs providing B.Tech in Automobile is also very few. So if you are not getting admission in these colleges for automobile, don't opt automobile engineering
My friend did B.Tech in Automobile Engineering at LPU and got placed in an MNC. He told me that the highest package offered for this programme at LPU is INR 31 LPA. Salient Features :
