For a degree in engineering in automobile branch you are required to pass 12th standard or pass Diploma and then you can seek admission in the four-year degree course or through lateral mode in the second year of four-year degree course respectively.

But I am afraid, admissions to engineering courses are no longer based on marks obtained in 12th except perhaps in the state of Tamil Nadu. You will have to appear for the entrance exam for your state or JEE Mains for CFTI's or JEE Advanced for IIT. Besides these almost all deemed to be universities also conduct their own exam. Unfortunately for engineering studies, there is nothing as compared with NEET for medical studies. Best wishes to you.
