I would recommend you not to go to free Internships. Once you start getting some income you will be able to sustain yourself. But in case you don't get a good option to choose from, you with what you have in hand. I think this should satisfy your query.

Yes, it is possible to change the college/university for a particular course. However, you will have to check with the desired college if they have lateral entry option available.
