Every college have different B.Sc preferable books. So, remember to be specific about college / university before questioning for better results.

If you want to study more and dream a beautiful future, you must go through BSc with a good Hons. like Physics/Chemistry/Maths. It may take some more time. If you have a good academic career and a good knowledge you have a better future.
I dont say Engineering is worse. But you may face a large competition with a insecure future. If you really want to do Engineering than work hard to get admission in IIT/NIT/other top institutions. Otherwise there is no guarantee to get a high salary job.
