No. Not at all. Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary field, emphasising mainly on key general, introductory Biology courses followed by the necessary courses in applied sciences using Biotechnology. In my opinion, there's nothing to caution yourself whether you are PCB/PCMB/PCM student. My suggestion would be to please give some time learning the definition of the word Biotechnology put into words by various international organisations, the applications of Biotechnology and its scope in India. The general notion is that Biotechnology doesn't have much scope within India and I have seen most of my friends around biotechnology taking up other careers. Its a sad note that a number folks prefer to go abroad for further studies to large extent; howbeit, I feel the if you are smart and determined to face whatever it takes, you can come out with wonders. Typically, the eligibility criteria for the undergraduate Biotechnology course is that students should have completed their 10+2 education from a recognised board with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) or PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology). In general, Biotechnology courses are open to students from both PC (Physics and Chemistry) and PCB/BIPC (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and optionally Mathematics) backgrounds, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above. However, it's important to note that the course curriculum may include subjects like Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Biophysics, Biochemistry, etc. that may be more familiar to students with a biology background. At the same time, mathematics and physics are also essential in certain areas of biotechnology like computational biology, bioinformatics, and biophysics. In conclusion, students with either PC or BIPC background are eligible to pursue Biotechnology courses, and the choice depends on their interests and aptitude.
