Chemical Engineering

I was confused between chemistry and physics, so started a joint course, but eventually qualified, as a chemist and worked in industry on R&D on a chemical plant. I realized that I would have done chemical engineering had I known about it. So, proceeded to study, take exams in chemical engineering and completed a design project for the Institution of Chemical Engineers. I have done work which bridges both fields. Both careers are valid, one is not better than the other. Both have a considerable range of career options which will suit some people more than others. In general, chemical engineering is better paid and more likely to lead to management, but money should not be your main aim. If you love chemistry, you should do chemistry, because there is surprisingly little in chemical engineering. What chemical engineers do is to provide the conditions for chemical or biological reactions to take place by physical processes such as heating, cooling, stirring, bubbling gases through etc. Then they carry out processes such as distillation or filtration to separate and purify the products. Finally they minimize the energy usage of processes, and dangers to people and the environment. It is a very broad subject area. Of course, chemical engineers have to be competent in chemistry and be prepared to learn any chemistry involved in a process. May also deal with complex biological systems and get educated in that area. However, chemical engineering is absolutely not applied chemistry. The degree courses are completely different. If you choose to be a chemist, I would advise a career plan through to Ph.D in order to get a good job in industry. For a chemical engineer, a Masters is pretty much required. A Ph.D is somewhat optional unless you wish to be an academic.

I'll compare the basic facts required to decide -
The syllabus of both the colleges are same as both come under GGSIPU. The teachers in both colleges are well educated and knowledgeable. Discipline - The faculty of BVCOE is quite strict about attendance and academics. Sometimes, one find it difficult to manage attendance and other co-curricular activities (fest, singing, drama and sports activities). Keeping attendance is the main agenda of the Department. In comparison, MAIT is quite lenient and doesn't care about attendance much. Marks assessment - In BVCOE, You have to work very hard to earn single mark. Everything here is transparent and that causes few problems like placements opportunities. Whereas, MAIT can provide marks easily and you might not feel any problems scoring good percentage there. Placement - Both BVCOE and MAIT have same kind of placement level as no core companies visit the campuses. Though, MAIT gives better placements percentage because of more mass recruitment. BVP offers less opportunities but still good ones. P. S. - I would prefer to go for MAIT personally because the life there is much cool than BVCOE.

Employment of chemical engineers is projected to grow 4% from 2012 to 2022, slower than the average for all occupations. According to the US Department of Labor, the median annual salary for a chemical engineer was $78,860. The middle 80 percent of chemical engineers made $50,060 to $118,670 annually. The average annual starting salary for a UK chemical engineering graduate is 28,000. The salaries of chemical engineers in India are very lucrative. Freshers can expect an average salary of Rs. 25,000 per month to Rs. 30,000 per month.
