Obviously because it is highly ranked, the higher the ranking tougher is to get admission. If you look at it the reverse way they are highly ranked because they are selective. Universities must be selective and competitive in their admission process so that they produce good students. I hope you got some clarity. And by the way, UOT which I believe is University of Toronto is also very competitive and in par with UBC.

Master's degree from Canada depends entirely on the overall profile of the applicant, which includes following parameters:

2. Research experience.
3. Projects undertaken.
4. Work experience or internship undertaken.
5. IELTS/ TOEFL scores (Average requirement for IELTS is 6.5 band and for TOEFL is 90).

If you want to be 100% sure for admission and visa, kindly repeat the IELTS and score overall band 6.5, not less than 6 in any section.

Hi Jitesh,
There is a small correction you need here. You do not hire a supervisor, it is the other way round. They should accept you. However, for M.Eng courses, it is not necessary to contact a supervisor before submitting an application. Once you submit your application you will be placed under a supervisor depending on university requirements.

Hi,
The main difference is the admission requirement. M.Eng is way too competitive than M.Sc. You have to be very strong in quantitative skills for M.Eng and the course is mainly practical application. M.Sc is more into theoretical approach. Similarly, job outcomes are also different. M.Sc will lead to research while M.Eng will most likely produce scientists and engineers.

Hi Sahil,
The University of British Columbia is one of the top-ranked and selective universities in Canada. On the basis of your academic record gaining admission into UBC seems difficult. Winnipeg is also selective but you can still try. I will suggest you check universities in Australia, New Zealand and European countries.
