A total of 1590 seats are available for BTech programmes at HITS Chennai. The seat intake varies for each of the course specialisation. HITS admit candidates to its BTech courses through HITSEEE counselling. However, it may grant admission through TNEA counselling as well. In 2024, the TNEA last round closing rank was 19791 for BTech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. It is for the candidates belonging to general All-India category candidates. The closing rank further shows that competition has got low as the closing rank was 2295 in 2023.

Hindustan University admit candidates to the BTech courses based on merit in HITSEEE. This entrance test is conducted by the university in online mode every year. The HITSEEE exam include 120 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). There are a total of three sections in the paper - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics comprising 40 questions each. Moreover, the entrance exam is conducted for 1 hour (60 minutes) only.
