No, candidates without a PG level degree in the relevant field are ineligible to apply for the NIT Jalandhar PhD admissions. Candidates will need to have cleared a specific PG level course in accordance with their chosen PhD course at NIT Jalandhar. Go to NIT Jalandhar's official website for the eligibility criteria of individual PhD courses.

No, candidates who have either appeared for the GATE or UGC NET are not required to appear for the NIT Jalandhar PhD admission Written Test. The aforementioned written test is only applicable to part-time PhD admissions where the candidates have not qualified in either the GATE or UGC NET.

Candidates who withdraw/cancel their NIT Jalandhar PhD admission at the counseling stage will be eligible for refunds in accordance to the rules applicable to the counseling. However, if a candidates cancels their admission after finalising their seat in the PhD course of NIT Jalandhar, they will not be eligible for any refunds.

No, candidates cannot apply for NIT Jalandhar PhD admissions in offline mode. The information brochure of the institute has mentioned that the applications will be accepted strictly in online mode only.
Aside from the application process, the registrations for the accepted entrance exams also cannot be done in offline mode.

To complete the PhD admissions at NIT Jalandhar, candidates need to provide the following documents once they have been shortlisted for the personal interview round:
- Class 10th and Class 12 passing certificate and marksheet
- UG level passing degree
- PG level passing degree
- GATE/UGC-NET scorecard
- Offer of Sponsorship (if applicable)
- Work experience certificate (if applicable)
- No Object certificate (if applicable)
- ID and address proof

No, the NIT Jalandhar PhD admissions have been closed for the academic year 2026. The last date to apply for NIT Jalandhar admissions to the PhD course was November 23rd 2025. Candidates who are still interested in the PhD courses offered by National Institute of Technology Jalandhar can wait for the June admissions to begin.

No, GATE is not a mandatory entrance exam for all PhD admissions at NIT Jalandhar. Candidates who are qualified for direct admissions at NIT Jalandhar's Engineering PhD courses are require to clear it during ME/MTech admissions.
However, for the remaining candidates, they can also appear for the UGC-NET exam to qualify for NIT Jalandhar admissions.

Yes, candidates can get direct admissions at NIT Jalandhar's PhD courses but only in the courses offered by the Engineering department. To secure direct admissions, candidates must clear a B.E./B.Tech course in any of the disciplines mentioned in annexure I/MCA from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) with minimum CGPA of 8.5.

Honestly, Thapar is a good private engineering college, but it does come at a cost.
For B.Tech, the total expense for 4 years (including tuition + hostel) usually goes around ₹28–35 lakhs, depending on your branch and accommodation. It's on the higher side compared to many colleges, so budgeting is important.
As for faculty, most professors are qualified (many with PhDs), and academics are taken seriously. Teaching quality is generally considered good, especially in core branches like CSE, ECE, and Mechanical. Like any big university, experiences can vary by department and individual professor.
