The BU applicant pool is extremely competitive and the student who gets in requires a story that shows intellectual curiosity, personal resilience and community engagement.
Look at the guidelines given below -
- The students are required to focus on why BU and how it aligns with their long-term goals.
- A good essay focuses on how you think rather than what you think.

The Boston University assessment style is more structured and data driven rather than the ultra-holistic way the Ivies follow. BU also conducts a comprehensive review of one's entire profile but it still has a strong focus on baseline and academic metrics.
BU relies heavily on GPA and scores in previous classes. They also check how engaged a student is with the university like if you have attended virtual information sessions or campus visits.

Cal State University Long Beach and the University of California Los Angeles, both universities are considered top tier and very hard to get into.
Talking about prestige and rankings, UCLA ranks a lot better than the CUSLB. The University of California Los Angeles QS ranking is #49 for the year 2027 and for CUSLB, it is 1401+
If you are looking for high rankings, choose UCLA and for less competition, CUSLB may be the right choice.

Getting into California State University Long Beach is quite competitive because of its acceptance rate hovering around 46.28% for the class of 2028.
This is because the CUSLB seats are very limited and there are more candidates for the same. The university also prioritizes the local residents leaving very little capacity for international applicants.
