Computer Science and Engineering Placement

While the B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) programme at IIT Kharagpur is highly prestigious and academically rigorous, its placement statistics reveal certain limitations compared to private universities like Lovely Professional University (LPU). In the 2024 placement season, IIT Kharagpur reported a placement rate of approximately 77.7% for B.Tech students overall, with the average salary package around ?24 LPA and the median package at ?19.76 LPA. The highest domestic package reached ?2.14 crore per annum, and several international offers were also extended. For the CSE branch specifically, the placement rate was around 91.86%, indicating that nearly 8% of students did not secure campus placements. While the packages for top performers are very high, a significant number of students may not achieve similarly lucrative outcomes.

In contrast, LPU's B.Tech in CSE programme focuses on both academic excellence and industry readiness. In the 2025 placement season, LPU achieved a 95% placement rate, with over 11,400 offers from more than 850 recruiters, including top companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Cognizant, TCS, and Deloitte. The highest package offered was ?54.2 LPA, the average package was ?8.2 LPA, and the top 25% of students earned an average of ?15.8 LPA. LPU emphasizes practical learning through internships, live projects, hackathons, and industry collaborations, equipping students with hands-on experience alongside theoretical knowledge.

While IIT Kharagpur provides a strong academic foundation, LPU offers a more comprehensive placement ecosystem, higher placement rates, and extensive industry exposure. For students prioritizing consistent placements and practical career readiness in CSE, LPU presents a highly attractive and strategically advantageous option.
