The NIFT Criteria says, Candidates must not be more than 23 years of age as on October 1, 2017. However, candidates from Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes category as well as Physically Handicapped Persons (PHP) can avail age relaxation of up to five years.
You can definitely try for other Private institutes because some of them don't have an age criteria. Do keep an eye on when are the admission forms coming out. They usually start around September.

Prepare for the AIEED - All India Entrance Examination for Design. If you are still in 12th, study hard because reputed institutes require atleast 55% in class 12th. Please refer to this article as well:
