Hi, Diploma in Nautical Science is one year maritime studies in nautical Science and it deals with only the basics of Nautical Science. It is treated as the equivalent to the 12th standard. On the other hand, a B.Sc in Nautical Sciences is a regular degree course of 3 years. It teaches various subjects related to nautical sciences in greater depth. For Diploma candidates, the minimum term for mandatory sailing is 18 months, whereas for B.Sc candidates it is 12 months. From job perspective a Diploma holder needs to approach to shipping companies and if fortunate then they can get selected for the campus recruitment interview. On the other hands The B.Sc. Nautical Science students needs to complete 12 months minimum sailing in an above 500 GRT vessel. Thereafter, they have to appear for written and oral exams for second mates. Moreover, after completing 3 years degree, they get a convocation certificate. This helps them pursue either a career in Merchant Navy or in any other sector of their choice. Hence, in my opinion both courses have their own importance but from job point of view B.Sc is better.

It is indeed nice to know your intention of doing graduation in engineering after Diploma in Mechatronics. But, doing engineering by distance mode is fraught with dangers. This is because in the past, the Supreme Court of India has cancelled degrees awarded by many institutes via distance mode. Of course now, the situation has again changed, but you must be taking this course from a very well-known and recognized University only. It is very nice to hear that even after 8 years of work experience you are still interested in doing MBA or some post graduate Diploma course in Canada. These days in Canada as well as many Western European countries the seats for higher education are not getting filled up. In view of this there is a very good chance for you to get admission in either a full-fledged two years course or even one year executive MBA course. However there are many nuances in this whole process.
