Give the 12th exam once again. Don't worry, failures and success are the part of life. People do diploma for average jobs like 25,000 per month or even less than that. You can do diploma but better to give 12th again and move ahead in life instead of going back. Don't underestimate yourself and keep yourself confident. Life is full of ups and downs. No, you don't need to give any exam. In lateral entry, admission is done on the basis of your CGPA.

Various branches are available in Diploma course: DECE, DEEE, DCSE, D Civil, D Mech, D Mechatronics, D Chemical, DITI. Mechanical department is the best branch. Go with that in which you have more interest. Best of luck.

My strong advise is not to even think of distance education program for doing engineering. Recently, it has been declared illegal by SC. You can think of doing AMIE instead.

Full-time diploma- 1 year (50K and 2 lakh)
Distance learning- 1 years and above (30 to 1 lakh)
Part time 1-year (40K to 1.5 lakh)-Online1 Year (20K and above)

Indian Railway:
Indian Railway always has demand for ITI diesel Mechanic so I advice you to make it your first target
Indian Defence:
