Yes, why not! Everyone can secure a good rank provided you work in the right way with good efforts.
Syllabi of both CBSE and state board in classes 11&12 are the same which is NCERT class 11&12. Maybe the difficulty would be different as CBSE questions involve more complexity which is the basis of JEE exams. So it is believed that CBSE students would only crack the exam with a good rank. It's not like that.
First, you need to decide whether you are going to learn by self-preparation or by joining a good coaching center.
If you have such a guidance then it would be better as they will guide in the exact way to clear JEE. They will give timely test papers and analyze your performance which would help you a lot. they would also coach better (only in a good coaching center). With that, you can easily qualify JEE main and advanced but you need to work hard to get a top rank.
By self-preparation, it is easy to crack JEE main but for advanced it is advisable to have a coaching. As you would be restricted to certain books, you may not practice a variety of papers and varieties of questions.
Even though you can crack JEE main by giving mock test papers, solving previous year papers and having a strong grip on concepts. clearing JEE advanced by self-preparation is not that easy.
so decide for yourself and work hard with full dedication to crack JEE exams. I would advise you to join a good coaching centre.

First, you have to fill the application form of JEE Mains, through online mode (starting of Dec. to first two days of Jan), then you can take out the admit card for sitting in the JEE Mains. In the month of March,
JEE Mains will be conducted in the starting of April itself
whose result will be declared at the end of the month of April,
If you have cleared the cut-off then you are eligible for giving JEE Advanced, for which application form will be out at the end of April to starting of May (max-for 5 days).
JEE Advanced may be conducted on 27th or 28th of May.
(Remember, it is up to you whether you want to give JEE Advanced or not. If you don't give it then also you are eligible for taking admission through JEE Mains marks in NITs, DTU, NSIT and some other colleges, but you will not be eligible for IIT's.)
In the starting of the month of June, you will get your all India rank of JEE Mains.
After all this is done, the counseling process starts.
If you eligible i.e. you have cleared the JEE Mains cut-off & scored at least 75% in your CBSE 12th then you have to fill the counseling form
JAC-FOR DTU, NSIT, IIIT, IGDTUW (only for girls), JOSSA-NIT's, IIT's, other govt. funded colleges.
Counselling process will continue in rounds and you will be allotted seats in the colleges as per your all India rank, and preferences that you have filled.
Note: Not every student who clears the cut-off get a seat in the colleges through JEE Mains. Candidates who have scored 50 to 60 marks and above the cut-off get something.
